Urban Sky Consort performs medieval, renaissance, baroque and 20th century vocal music,
focusing on works written by and for women.

In June 1997, Urban Sky Consort opened the Logan Chamber Music Series at Chautauqua Institute with a concert entitled Passion and Devotion: A Millenium of Music by Women. This program was rebroadcast as part of the "Music From Chautauqua" series on WQED-FM 89.3, November 19, 1998.

Passion and Devotion traced the luminous thread weaving through the music of female devotion and passion from the 12th century German abbess and mystic, Hildegard of Bingen, to seventeenth century Italy and the pen of Barbara Strozzi, to an exciting 20th century setting of a text by Hildegard. The Jamestown Post Journal called their music "beautiful and memorable" and the performance "wonderfully assured, stable, calming and filled with faith."

As individual musicians and as an ensemble, the members of Urban Sky Consort have studied with some of the world's most respected vocal and instrumental early music specialists including Julianne Baird, Barbara Thornton, Laurie Monahan, Ellen Hargis, David Douglass and Drew Minter.

The ensemble was honored in 1996 by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters for its program of works by Hildegard recorded by WQED-FM.
